TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Ryan McDonagh and the Edmonton Oilers fourth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft from the Nashville Predators. McDonagh, a veteran of 12 NHL seasons, returns to the Lightning after spending the past two years with the Predators.
McDonagh, 33, is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Lightning, having won the trophy in 2020 and 2021. He is known for his physical play and strong defensive abilities. McDonagh is expected to bolster the Lightning's blue line, which has been a key factor in their recent success.
In exchange for McDonagh, the Predators receive the Lightning's fourth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The trade is pending league approval.
